Exciting News!

We’re thrilled to announce the completion of our center’s expansion project! We’ve added approximately 800 square feet to our space, including two new offices (one for individual therapy, one for bodywork) and a beautiful new group room – large enough to hold workshops for up to 20 people, or a movement class of 10. Our group room offers a welcoming, private space designed to support therapy groups, workshops, and collaborative gatherings of all kinds. The additional office space means room for more services and ways to support you in your growth & healing.

We are specifically looking for a bodyworker or acupuncturist – so if you know anyone looking for space and to join a collaborative community, please let us know! They can reach us at hello@springvillagecenter.com.

Since we opened our doors in 2021, we’ve had our eye on an expansion, with the hopes to serve the community in this way.

We couldn’t be happier to share our expanded space with you <3

“Sprout”-ing a Newsletter

With our renovation complete, we have more energy to give towards creating connections. One way we're growing the relationship between Spring Village Center and our community is through a new newsletter: Sprout.

Each edition will feature reflections from us on the ideas shaping our work, practical tools you can use in daily life, updates from around the center, a look at what's coming up – groups, workshops, courses, classes, and more. Sprout is our way of staying connected to you and sharing what we’re up to.

We're so glad to have you along as it grows!

Thoughts on Growth & Change

Cat McLaughlin, LPC

Change can be tricky. It often descends upon us with a moment's notice - the phone call, the knock on the door. This kind of change can feel stressful & destabilizing, whether the news is sad or exciting. There's something about the suddenness of it that catches us by surprise.

Sometimes we see change coming, like my rising high school senior graduating and heading off to college. In this case, there's no surprise. I have the illusion of being prepared for this massive milestone. (Though I'm not sure it's any less stressful.) I've learned that we can't really plan ahead for experiences, because we don't know exactly who we'll be when we're in them. In this case, I'm pretty sure it will be sad and exciting, all rolled into one.

And then there's another kind of change, the kind we seek out. The kind the people who sit across from me choose. They're connecting with a different part of themselves, their future selves, their deeper selves, their core self - and actively forging a new path. This kind of change can be just as stressful, just as challenging, but I think it feels different, because this time, we're the ones doing the choosing.

This is where I find myself with a number of things in my life right now, as I approach a milestone birthday, and with our wellness center, too: actively choosing change and growth, to accomplish specific goals within the year, to actively expand our center to serve our community and grow our offerings. It's hard, it feels intense, and it's also really fulfilling.

Making space here for the juxtaposition of the growth and change we choose and the growth and change that chooses us.

A question to sit with & reflect on: What is a part of my life that feels affected by change and growth? Am I choosing the change, or is it happening to me? And how does it feel different in each situation?

Back to School Resources

For those of you with children at home who are going back to school, this can be a dizzying time of year. Let's also remember that experiences live on in our bodies — so if you're finding yourself stressed, anxious, or unexpectedly standing in the school supply aisle, it may be your history showing up. Shifts in routine can also build pressure in the system. Here are a few resources to help you find some calm amidst the chaos:

Mindfulness activity — 2 Feet, 1 Breath: Sit with both feet on the floor. Take a deep breath, and as you exhale, feel your right foot on the floor. Take another deep breath, and as you exhale, feel your left foot on the floor. Now take a deep breath and feel both feet on the floor.

Planning meeting: It can be helpful to have a brief planning meeting in advance of the week, to make sure everyone's on the same page — perhaps a Saturday or Sunday afternoon or evening. Use your favorite calendar system, paper or electronic, to note who's going where and what meals will look like, plus any work travel or big events. Involving your children in the meeting helps them feel invested and aware, and hopefully encourages them to take responsibility for their own activities and gear. If you have time, look ahead to upcoming events and talk through planned budgeting; with older kids, check their PowerSchool (grading portal) or homework calendars together.

Date your family: We know how important it is to have family time together — meals, a shared movie or game night, a special treat. But one-on-one time can be equally important. Try doing something special with one family member at a time; it doesn't have to be a big event — it can be something as small as a dog walk around the block. Use mindful listening and talking, taking turns sharing. If you have a teenager, let them choose the activity, and do most of the listening — no advice-giving, just reflecting. This helps maintain your individual connection with each family member, which in turn strengthens the group.
